Surgical Ablation With Maze Procedure Restores Sinus Rhythm

At one year, 53.2% of patients with longstanding, persistent AF who underwent the maze procedure in addition to cardiac and/or valvular surgery were in normal sinus rhythm, compared with just 13.9% of patients who underwent surgery alone. Editorialists, however, say the use of 24-hour Holter ECG monitoring for a rhythm-based primary outcome is not reliable enough to formulate conclusive results.
